As the year turns, the campaign has gifts and pledges totaling $6 million. Volunteers are busy securing a number of additional year-end commitments, moving strongly into 2009 with another $1 million to raise. A public event will be held sometime in the Spring to launch the public phase of the campaign.

Campaign volunteers "stood on Market" on Black Friday bringing attention to the campaign goal and the renovations planned to preserve, nourish, and enhance the Market building and the whole Market shopping experience. Black Friday Market shoppers were excited to receive "Love Market" buttons, pens and bumper stickers. People stopping by our campaign stand were interested in hearing about the construction plans, and shared with us many stories about their personal enthusiasm of shopping at Market.

Roof
Replace roof. Install new galvanized steel flashings, gutters and downspouts.
Replace snowbirds on roof.
Install roof insulation installed under roof shingles.

Walls and Windows
Replace deteriorating bricks with historic bricks, re-pointing brickwork as needed with soft mortar.
Repair windows. Dormer windows will be made operable. Repair door hardware.

Inside
Dig basement under east ell of building for mechanicals and stand holder storage space.
Reduce inside light fixtures from 500 lights currently to 40!
Install plumbing and electric lines to each stand.
Install new heating and cooling systems.
Enlarge mezzanine, replace bathrooms.
Uplight Inside roof to showcase the artistic Howe Trusses, a unique artistic sculptural expression. Howe trusses were typically used on bridges where there are long expanses of weight to be held. This is a very unusual architectural feature to be found on the inside of a building.

General
Construction is expected to begin mid 2009 and take about a year.
Market will not close during construction.
The work will be done in sections. While one particular section is being done, the stands in that area will either move or close for the time needed (maybe about a week.)
